What to watch

Soft commodities and dried foods ship mainly in 20' or 40' containers, bagged or in cartons. They are sensitive to moisture, odour and temperature, and often need phytosanitary and quality documents.

Coffee and cocoa are moisture-sensitive; ventilated or lined containers are common.

Spices and nuts can be tested for aflatoxins and pesticide residues; EU import controls are strict.

Honey needs origin and residue documentation; some countries restrict blended or unlabelled honey.

Strong-smelling cargo should not share a container with absorbent goods such as coffee or tea.
