What to watch

Grain, rice, pulses, oilseeds, sugar and animal feed move either in bulk or bagged in containers. Phytosanitary status and moisture control decide whether the cargo is cleared at destination.

Fumigated containers must be marked and ventilated before opening; fumigation certificates are routinely requested.

Moisture and temperature changes cause condensation damage (container rain); ventilated containers, liners or desiccants reduce the risk.

Some importers run state tenders with fixed quality specs and tight shipment windows.
