What to watch

Logs, sawn timber, plywood and wood pellets ship in containers, as breakbulk or in bulk. Legality documentation and treatment of wood are as important as the freight itself.

Wood packaging must comply with ISPM 15 (heat treatment or fumigation, with mark).

Some species are listed under CITES and need permits.

Wood pellets are classified as dangerous goods or bulk-hazardous in some forms (self-heating, off-gassing); check IMDG/IMSBC status.

Moisture content affects weight and mould risk.
